One of Europe\u2019s largest metropolitan areas, London is a major destination for both business travelers and tourists. More than\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tfl.gov.uk\/corporate\/modesoftransport\/londonunderground\/1608.aspx\">1 billion<\/a>\u00a0passengers are serviced by Transport for London (TfL) every year across over 18,000 bus stops and over 250 Underground stations.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you\u2019re at Trafalgar Square, and you want to visit Madame Tussauds. With a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.co.uk\/maps?saddr=Trafalgar+Square,+London&amp;daddr=Madame+Tussauds,+Marylebone+Road,+Paddington&amp;hl=en&amp;sll=51.515415,-0.14154&amp;sspn=0.016024,0.038581&amp;geocode=FXbyEQMdzQj-_ylN1CU7zgR2SDH3ytD3e5GF9Q%253BFdwsEgMdeKD9_yGGoD3GxDUhtA&amp;mra=ltm&amp;dirflg=r&amp;ttype=now&amp;noexp=0&amp;noal=0&amp;sort=def&amp;z=14&amp;start=3\">simple<\/a>directions search, you\u2019ll see all the possible public transport connections. In\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.co.uk\/?q=London,+United+Kingdom\">Maps<\/a>, click \u201cGet directions\u201d in the left-hand panel, and then the train icon to see public transport directions. Enter your departure location next to A, and your destination next to B. These can be either street addresses or names of popular places, businesses or restaurants. When you\u2019re done, click the \u201cGet directions\u201d button and suggestions for your trip will appear below.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-11nSx3F6mbE\/TjCfL9Am2XI\/AAAAAAAAIUU\/J-Tn6h7TThQ\/s1600\/London_Transit_Query.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-11nSx3F6mbE\/TjCfL9Am2XI\/AAAAAAAAIUU\/J-Tn6h7TThQ\/London_Transit_Query.png\" alt=\"\" height=\"450\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Public transport directions are available on both\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.co.uk\/\">Google Maps<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.co.uk\/mobile\/maps\/\">Google Maps for mobile<\/a>, so you always have access to a trip planner. When you\u2019re on mobile, Maps even uses your current location to determine the best trip to your destination. Just search for your destination location, select it on the map and choose the \u201cDirections\u201d option. The suggested trips will be based on your location by default, and provide you multiple alternatives whenever possible.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re using an Android-powered device, you can also get public transport directions with<a href=\"http:\/\/googleblog.blogspot.com\/2011\/07\/google-maps-57-for-android-introduces.html\">Transit Navigation (Beta)<\/a>\u00a0in Google Maps. With this new feature, which we launched earlier this month, you\u2019ll get alerts when it\u2019s time to get off the bus or train at your destination or to make a transfer. Transit Navigation is available in all regions where public transport directions are available, including London.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-cLXfVpeamVo\/TjCfMqTDFdI\/AAAAAAAAIUY\/ku1rg-DSMJU\/s1600\/London_Transit_Navigation.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-cLXfVpeamVo\/TjCfMqTDFdI\/AAAAAAAAIUY\/ku1rg-DSMJU\/London_Transit_Navigation.png\" alt=\"\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>TfL is among the first agencies in a major European city to make its timetable information<a href=\"http:\/\/data.london.gov.uk\/datastore\/package\/tfl-timetable-listings\">publicly available<\/a>\u00a0through the London Datastore.
