If you haven’t been to Hey Oscar Wilde! … It’s Clobberin’ Time – the illustrations of literary figures blog – in a while, now’s probably a good time to check back there. Blogger, Steven Gettis has updated with tons of great illustrations (including the above/scary Lord of the Flies illustration by Sam Weber – PS. Johnny wrote more about that project here).

Also check out Dune illustration by Dustin Harbin, Haruki Murakami by Jeffrey Brown and this George Orwell caricature by Kevin Nowlan.

In this post I’ll show you some newspaper designs that are great in my opinion. Also, there’s a great video from the TED Talks by Jacek Utko on how design can save newspapers.

Die Presse am Sonntag

I’m Austrian, therefore it’s pretty normal to subscribe to an Austrian newspaper. “Die Presse am Sonntag ” is the sunday edition of the daily paper “Die Presse”.

They have a great layout and quality journalism, but the sunday edition is even better designed:

Hartford Courant

Since many years the Hartford Courant is constantly among the world’s best designed newspapers. I think that especially the typography is awesome.

I kind of got lost a little bit in creating Monthly Deviantart web interface features, but at least I loved to do research and get inspired every month, and since our blog is focused mainly on web design, I am sure you enjoy it as well.
